Her father was Wanyan Lixian, known as 'Lord Li Wu' (立五爷), and he was the grandson of the Grand Councillor (Military Minister) Chonghou.

Her mother was the great-great-great-granddaughter (5th-generation direct descendant) of the Qianlong Emperor, and the daughter of Heng Hui (恒慧), who was the second daughter ('Er Gege') of Beile Yulang. The Manchu noble circle was, in fact, quite small; Empress Wanrong, the wife of Puyi (the last Emperor), was Wanyan Litongji's first cousin.
