Three strikingly different artistic styles converge and interweave upon these fabrics:

The first is a hand-painted silk fabric, taking inspiration from the classic scroll Along the River During the Qingming Festival. Meticulously executed, the architectural pavilions and hidden blossoms unfold across the silk, where the emerald landscape is imbued with the bustling life of a millennium-old marketplace. Every stroke and line is soaked in the subtle grace and classic integrity of ancient tradition.

The second utilizes the Art Deco-inspired shibori (tie-dye) technique, flawlessly merging the classical Oriental beauty of Ruan Lingyu with the bold geometry of the decorative arts. It resembles the gentle sway of a qipao’s fringe under the moonlight, simultaneously revealing the crisp, modern lines of the era and the delicate, poignant charm of Old Shanghai.

The third is the hand-dyed technique that captivates me most, seeming like an otherworldly illusion: At times, it resembles the vibrant, dissipating clouds of color from a Dunhuang fresco, spreading layer upon layer of seamless gradient across the plain silk. At other times, it is like the leaping aurora of the Arctic ice fields, bursting with fantastical halos in cool tones. It is also reminiscent of a seductive, illusory vision from a forbidden realm, where vibrant colors drift between reality and mirage, making it impossible to tell if the fabric is breathing or if the dream itself is moving.

These three crafts and techniques are like a dialogue across three dimensions of time and space, weaving through the warp and weft to articulate the eternal aesthetics of tradition and modernity, East and West, realism and fantasy.
